All visitors and parent volunteers must stop by the
main office to sign in and secure a badge. 
We greatly appreciate everyone's diligence in following this procedure and reminding each other as well.

New Kindergarten Age Requirements:
Effective for the 2013-2014 school year, children entering Kindergarten must be five (5) years of age on or before August 31 and five (5) years of age on or before August 15 for all school years thereafter. The only exception involves students who are currently attending a Hamilton County Department of Education Pre-K program for the current 2012-2013 school year. These students may register for their zoned Kindergarten if they are five (5) years of age on or before the former requirement date of September 30.

Kindergarten Pre-Registration:
Nolan Elementary will be hosting pre-registration for Kindergarten students living in the Nolan zone for the 2013-2014 school year on Monday, May 6 from 1:00 to 3:00 in the gym. As a reminder, the new age requirement that children entering Kindergarten must be five (5) years of age on or before August 31 to register will be in effect with no exceptions per the Hamilton County Department of Education. Per policy, families will need to bring a copy of the birth certificate, proof of immunizations and a physical reflected on the Tennesseeform, and 2 proofs of residency with the parents’ or guardians’names listed for an address within the Nolan zone.

Cafeteria Information

The last day to pay by check in the cafeteria will be Friday, May 3. Also, during the month of May, the Nolan cafeteria is sponsoring a contest where each student’s name will entered into a drawing for each day they purchase a meal during lunch. Names will be drawn on May 20 with one prize basket being awarded to a student from each grade level K through 5.

Report Card Holds

As a reminder, report cards must be held for any outstanding debts related to lunch charges, SACC before or aftercare charges, lost textbooks or library books, etc. All debts related to textbooks or library books should be paid in the main office directly to Nolan. All debts related to lunch charges should be paid to HCDE School Nutrition in the cafeteria and all debts related to childcare should be paid to HCDE SACC.

2013-2014 Summer Reading Lists

New this summer, all of the mountain elementary schools including Nolan, Thrasher, and Lookout Mountain Elementary will be sharing a common summer reading list for each grade level. Please click on the links below to access grade level summer reading lists and any school-specific summer reading information. Also, please note that students are still able to participate once again in the Scholastic Summer Challenge where students are encouraged to log into the site to record all of their summer reading minutes. For more information, or to sign-in to log your minutes, please visit scholastic.com/summer. In addition, please be on the lookout for information coming home regarding the Nolan library being open one day each week throughout the summer. For more information, contact Mrs. Gill.

Summer Projects Print Email

All second graders at Nolan and Thrasher Elementary schools are invited to participate in the Junior Garden Club Exhibit on Tuesday, June 4.  This exhibit is one part of a larger Flower Show sponsored by the Garden Club of Signal Mountain.

If your student would like to plant a Dish Garden on Tuesday, May 14 please contact Carolene Perry at 886-1960 or carolenegp@gmail immediately or by 9pm on Sunday, May 12.  All materials will be provided and the planting will be done at the MACC beginning at 3:30pm on the May 14.  Each student will care for their garden until June 3 when either you or I can deliver the garden for exhibit. Students and their parents may attend the Flower Show between 2 and 5 pm on June 4 at the home of Jane and Larry Skaggs on Wilson Ave. Each student will receive a Certificate of Appreciation and their garden to keep.

On Monday, June 3 at the MACC beginning at 10am, second grade students who volunteer can make fresh flower arrangements, all materials provided, with demonstration and guidance provided by garden club members. Each arrangement will be delivered to the Flower Show on that date. Again, each participating student will receive a Certificate of Appreciation and can take their arrangement home on June 4 at 5pm. Any student wishing to participate can contact Carolene Perry (886-1960 or  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Garden Club of Signal Mountain  presents 4 programs during the school year to all second graders at Nolan and Thrasher Elementary schools. Participation is cost free, minimal time commitment, educational and memory making. Please talk with your second grader to determine their interest and call me by May 12 or May 19.
